Barcelona defender Eric Garcia described his team’s Champions League semifinal defeat to Inter as “cruel” after they lost 4-3 in the second leg. The Spanish side had staged a remarkable comeback from 2-0 down, with Garcia scoring a stunning goal to put Barcelona ahead 3-2 in the second half.
However, Inter equalized in the final moments of regular time and clinched the victory in extra time, leaving Garcia reflecting on a missed opportunity. “Football has been very cruel to us. I don’t know what it is about this stadium. I’ve been here three times, and it’s never gone our way,” Garcia said after the match.
He acknowledged the challenges faced, especially after their previous controversial encounter with the referee. “We all know what happened with this referee last time. We have to be proud. No one believed in us, they said it was a transition year, that we were very young. And in the end, look at all this,” he added.
Garcia praised the team’s resilience, highlighting their strong second-half performance. “In the second half, we were far superior. We showed what a team we are,” he said. Despite the heartbreaking extra-time loss, Garcia remains confident it won’t affect Barcelona’s upcoming match. “I don’t think it will affect Sunday. We exceeded expectations. The team comes out stronger today, even if it wasn’t to be.”
Barcelona now turns their attention to a crucial Clasico clash against Real Madrid at Montjuic on Sunday, where they can clinch the La Liga title with a win.
