Valentine Sports Park came alive in April as Football NSW hosted its Girls Talent Support Program (GTSP) tournament, welcoming promising young players from across the state during the school holiday period.
The event featured girls born in 2009 and 2010, with participants enjoying high-level football in a competitive and supportive environment. Teams from across Regional NSW, as well as representatives from Northern NSW, the Central Coast Mariners, and the Western Sydney Wanderers, took part in the tournament.
“There was some fantastic football played and it was a great experience for not just the players but the staff also,” said Nadine Shiels, Player Development Manager for Girls at Football NSW.
Regional NSW teams also participated in pre-tournament camps and sessions as part of the final selection process for the NSW Country State Teams.
“The presence of professional academy programs and strong regional representation created a meaningful and challenging environment for all players and teams involved,” Shiels added.
Standout Individual Performers:
- 2010 Player of the Tournament: Grace Duggan (Illawarra Stingrays)
- 2010 Goalkeeper of the Tournament: Layla Mullins (Highlands FC)
- 2009 Player of the Tournament: Erin Blayney (Northern Tigers)
- 2009 Goalkeeper of the Tournament: Helayna Gibson (Western Sydney Wanderers)
Looking ahead, Term 2 of the Girls TSP will kick off on May 27, this time featuring players born in 2011, continuing Football NSW’s commitment to developing the next generation of female footballers.
