Tennis stars Coco Gauff and Alexandra Eala will play together in women’s doubles at the 2025 Italian Open, taking place from May 7 to 18 in Rome.
Gauff, ranked world No. 3 in singles, is partnering with Eala, a rising star from the Philippines who just reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 70. The pair received a wildcard entry into the WTA 1000 event’s doubles draw.
Team Gauff-Eala will face Alexandra Panova and Fanny Stollár in the opening round on Friday, May 9, at the Foro Italico.
Both players also entered the singles competition. Gauff, seeded high, received a first-round bye and is set to face 18-year-old Canadian qualifier Victoria Mboko in the second round. Eala, however, exited early after a tough first-round loss to Marta Kostyuk, falling 6-0, 6-1.
Gauff brings strong doubles experience, having already claimed nine career titles. That includes the 2024 French Open crown, which she won alongside two-time Olympic champion Kateřina Siniaková. She is now aiming for her 10th doubles title and fourth WTA 1000 trophy.
The 21-year-old American is also a returning finalist in Rome, having reached the doubles final last year with Erin Routliffe. Routliffe is now partnering with Olympic bronze medallist Gabriela Dabrowski as the tournament’s top-seeded pair.
