Thailand will host the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship, scheduled for August 22 to September 7. A total of 32 top women’s national teams from across five continents will compete in the tournament, which will take place in multiple Thai cities.
The competition will feature volleyball powerhouses including the United States, China, Japan, Brazil, Turkey, Italy, the Netherlands, and reigning champions Serbia, alongside the host nation, Thailand.
The tournament will kick off with the Pool Phase from August 22 to 27, held across four cities: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Nakhon Ratchasima. These cities are known for their rich sporting history, vibrant local culture, and appeal to visitors.
The top 16 teams will progress to the knockout rounds in Bangkok, with the Round of 16 taking place from August 29 to September 1. The Quarter-Finals will follow on September 3 and 4, the Semi-Finals on September 6, and the Final on September 7. Rest days will be scheduled between each phase.
Sorawong Thienthong, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, said the championship aligns with the “Grand Sports” series of the Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025. The event is expected to boost Thailand’s global image and generate over 8.5 billion Baht ($259.75 million) in tourism spending and media exposure, reaching more than 1.3 billion viewers worldwide.
Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, highlighted that the event offers a chance to showcase Thailand’s culture, hospitality, and ability to host sustainable international events.
Volleyball is one of Thailand’s most popular sports, with the women’s national team consistently ranked in the top 15. The team has a large and passionate fanbase, and their participation will be a major attraction at the championship.
The FIVB Women’s World Championship is part of a significant sports calendar for Thailand in 2025, which includes other major events such as the SEA Games, ASEAN Para Games, MotoGP PT Grand Prix, Muaythai World Festival, Honda LPGA Thailand, and UTMB trail running races.
