The Sweet Briar College women’s tennis team made history on Sunday by winning its first-ever ECAC Division III Women’s Tennis Championship. The Vixens defeated Baruch College 4-1 to claim the title. Sweet Briar finishes the season with a 15-7 overall record and an 8-2 mark in the ODAC. Baruch ends at 12-5 overall and 5-0 in CUNYAC.
Sweet Briar started strong by earning the doubles point. At No. 3 doubles, Maggie Minton and Ari Venturi cruised to a 6-1 win over Jacqueline Moreno and Jennifer Rojas. At No. 2, Lucia Bovard and Ally Caracciolo secured a 6-4 victory against Maria Calvo and Simran Yadav.
In singles play, Lucia Bovard gave the Vixens a 2-0 lead with a dominant performance at No. 5 singles. She defeated Jacqueline Moreno 6-0, 6-0. First-year Ari Venturi followed with an identical 6-0, 6-0 win over Brianna Augustin at No. 6 singles, pushing the team to the brink of victory.
The championship was clinched by sophomore Maggie Minton, who delivered a strong 6-1, 6-0 win over Maria Calvo at the No. 4 spot.
With the victory, Sweet Briar celebrates a major milestone in program history and looks ahead to continuing its success next season.
What’s Next
The Vixens will now turn their focus to preparing for the 2025–26 season.
