After two previous runner-up finishes, Hungary’s Dalma Galfi has finally claimed her first WTA 125 title. The 26-year-old defeated No. 2 seed Katie Volynets of the United States 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to win the Oeiras Ladies Open in Portugal on Sunday.
The clay-court tournament was disrupted by rain throughout the week, but the final was completed on schedule. Galfi rallied after dropping the first set, finishing the two-hour and 13-minute match strong.
“Third time’s the charm,” Galfi posted on Instagram, celebrating the biggest title of her career.
Before this win, Galfi had lost in two WTA 125 finals—first to Sara Errani in 2022 at Contrexeville, and more recently to Darja Semenistaja two weeks ago in La Bisbal d’Empordà. All three finals were on clay and went to three sets.
In the final on Sunday, Galfi showed great resilience. She saved all four break points she faced in the second and third sets, taking control of the match after the opening set loss. Overall, she dropped just one set throughout the tournament—the first set of the final.
Galfi has now won nine of her last ten matches. Her victory in Portugal follows closely on the heels of her runner-up finish in Spain, signaling a strong clay-court swing.
Currently ranked No. 149, Galfi is expected to rise near the Top 120 in the updated WTA rankings. She was the ITF Junior World Champion in 2015 and also won the Junior US Open that year. Her career-high ranking is No. 79, reached in 2022.
Also on Sunday, Portuguese sisters Francisca and Matilde Jorge successfully defended their doubles title at the Oeiras Ladies Open. The No. 2 seeds defeated Anastasia Detiuc and Patricia Maria Tig 6-1, 6-2 in just 63 minutes. This marks back-to-back titles at this event for the Jorge sisters.
