Oklahoma City Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti has been honored as the 2024-25 NBA Basketball Executive of the Year. This marks Presti’s first time receiving the prestigious award, having previously finished as the runner-up three times (2009-10, 2019-20, and 2023-24).
Under Presti’s leadership, the Thunder achieved an NBA-best 68-14 record during the 2024-25 regular season, tied for the sixth-best record in NBA history. Oklahoma City also set a new league benchmark for scoring differential, outscoring opponents by an impressive 12.9 points per game.
Key to the team’s success were Presti’s offseason acquisitions, including guard Alex Caruso and center Isaiah Hartenstein. Caruso, a two-time Kia NBA All-Defensive Team selection, contributed with 7.1 points and 1.61 steals per game while helping the Thunder lead the NBA in defensive rating (106.6). Hartenstein, in his first season with Oklahoma City, posted career highs of 11.2 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.
Presti is in his 18th season with the Thunder franchise, having been named general manager in June 2007. Before joining Oklahoma City, he spent seven years with the San Antonio Spurs, climbing from video intern to vice president/assistant general manager.
The 2024-25 NBA Basketball Executive of the Year Award voting panel included one representative from each NBA team. The votes were independently tabulated by Ernst & Young LLP.
