Nine El Paso high school tennis players have earned a spot in the 2025 Texas UIL State Tournament. To qualify, players needed to finish in the top three of their divisions at regional tournaments.
The state tournament will take place on May 15-16 in San Antonio.
Class 5A Highlights
El Paso High’s boys doubles team of Maximus Martin and Nicolas Guevara secured a second-place finish at the Region 1-5A tournament. They reached the championship match but fell short in a close contest, losing 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 to Connor Isbell and Noah Malin from Colleyville.
Class 6A Highlights
Franklin High’s Karina Lee advanced to the state tournament after defeating Montwood’s Gema Perales in the third-place match. Lee won 7-5, 6-1 to claim her spot.
In mixed doubles, Franklin’s Kendall Olivas and Ayden Fraire won the regional title. They defeated Coronado’s Makenzie Baptist and Matteo Uraga with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory. Both teams will move on to state, with Franklin taking first and Coronado finishing second.
Coronado also saw success in boys doubles. The team of Mills Hall and Matteo Bejar earned their state tournament berth by winning a tough third-place match. They beat Plano West’s Taku Coultson and Dev Mansingka 6-3, 3-6, 7-6.
