Tennis Month Returns to Canada with Over 100 Events Nationwide This June

Tennis Month is back in Canada this June, promising to be bigger and better than ever. More than 100 events are already registered, with more expected in the coming weeks. Organized by Tennis Canada and supported by the Provincial and Territorial Tennis Associations (PTTAs), this nationwide celebration aims to bring tennis to communities across the country.

“Canada is a tennis nation. Tennis Month gives us the chance to keep that momentum going,” said Eva Havaris, Senior Vice President of Tennis Development and Partnerships at Tennis Canada. “Whether you are trying tennis for the first time or picking it up again, we invite Canadians everywhere to enjoy the benefits of this lifelong sport.”

A key focus this year will be “Try Events,” part of the Rogers First Set initiative. These beginner-friendly events will help introduce tennis to more people, especially youth, as Canada works toward engaging over 100,000 young players by 2027.

Events will be held at various locations, including tennis clubs, community centers, and public parks. Organizers are committed to making tennis accessible by hosting supervised activities that welcome people of all ages and abilities.

Canada’s love for tennis continues to grow. According to the 2024 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Global Tennis Report, 12.8% of Canadians play tennis, the second-highest rate in the world. Nearly five million Canadians now play the sport, showing a clear rise in popularity.

Participation among women and girls has also increased significantly. In 2021, only 29.2% of players were female. Today, that number has grown to 46%, reflecting improved gender equity in the sport.

This progress is the result of collaboration among clubs, coaches, volunteers, municipalities, PTTAs, and corporate partners. Together, they are building a strong future for tennis in Canada. For more details on this growth, Tennis Canada encourages readers to review the Canadian Tennis Development Report.

With summer approaching, Tennis Canada invites everyone to grab a racquet, head to a local court, and celebrate Tennis Month this June.
