Football NSW has announced the launch of the Grassroots Female Coaches Mentoring Program. This new initiative is designed to support and empower female coaches at the grassroots level across New South Wales.
The program is backed by the NSW Office of Sport through the NSW Football Legacy Program, along with support from the Australian Government’s Play Our Way Program, under the Department of Health and Aged Care.
The aim is to provide aspiring female coaches from Community Football Clubs with expert mentoring, helping them develop their skills, build confidence, and grow as leaders in the game.
Key features of the program include:
- One-on-one in-person mentoring with experienced coaches.
- Exclusive workshops and development sessions.
- Networking opportunities with other female coaches.
- Ongoing access to coaching resources and support.
Football NSW’s Head of Women’s and Schools Football, Hayley Todd, said the program will play a crucial role in developing female coaching talent.
“Football NSW is committed to creating an inclusive environment that nurtures female coaches at the grassroots level. This mentoring program is a vital step to increase female participation and provide meaningful support,” she said.
The program is the first of its kind in NSW. It focuses on personal engagement, giving community coaches tailored guidance to improve their coaching journey.
Chris Adams, Football NSW’s Coach Education Manager, emphasized the wider benefits: “By investing in female grassroots coaches, we not only support their growth but also help develop better players.”
The program is open to registered female coaches from grassroots clubs across Football NSW, regardless of experience level. Local Football Associations will nominate candidates, with selected coaches starting the program later this year.
Coaches interested in participating are encouraged to contact their Football Association Coach Education or Football Manager to express their interest.
