Stanford women’s tennis saw its season end on Saturday after a close 4-3 defeat to Oklahoma State in the NCAA Super Regionals. Despite a strong fight, the No. 25 Cardinal fell short in the final moments of the match held in Stillwater, Oklahoma. This year marked Stanford’s 43rd consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The 2024 season was special for Stanford as it was the first under head coach Frankie Brennan. The team finished with a 17-9 record. Though they missed reaching the quarterfinals for a historic 40th time, their consistent presence in the postseason shows the program’s lasting success.
The match started tough for Stanford. They lost the doubles point after defeats on Courts 1 and 3. However, singles play kept them in the competition.
Freshman Valerie Glozman, an All-American in her debut season, earned a key win. She defeated No. 84 Anastasiya Komar 7-5, 6-2 to tie the match. Glozman finished her first year with an impressive 32-5 record.
Senior Connie Ma, also an All-American, followed with a straight-set victory. This tied the overall score at 2-2. Ma ended her four-year career with an outstanding 131-28 record.
Another senior, Valencia Xu, gave Stanford the lead with a thrilling comeback. After trailing 5-2 in the first set, she won five straight games and eventually took the match 7-5, 6-3 on Court 4.
However, Stanford could not close out the remaining matches. Oklahoma State won the final two courts in three sets, sealing the victory.
Stanford remains the most successful program in college tennis history, with 20 NCAA titles out of 43 tournaments. The team will return in the fall, aiming for another chance at championship glory.
