Portland State head men’s tennis coach Vetu Mam has announced the signing of three new players for the 2025-26 season. Freshmen Aarjun Pandit and Ignacio Ruiz, along with transfer Hampus Hagglund, will join the Vikings this fall.
“I’m excited about this group,” Mam said. “It’s a mix of experience and young energy. The goal was to build around the young guys I already have who’ve shown a lot of heart. We have a lot of talent and character coming in this fall.”
The new class continues to grow the diversity of the Vikings’ roster. All three recruits are from outside the United States and represent three different continents. Pandit is from Gurgaon, India; Ruiz is from Veracruz, Mexico; and Hagglund comes from Stockholm, Sweden.
Pandit, graduating from Ajanta Public School this spring, is a standout junior player. He has won six National Series tournaments and represented India in the 2023 Junior Davis Cup. He reached the No. 1 ranking in India’s U16 division and has two ITF J60 singles titles, four doubles titles, and multiple runner-up finishes at higher-level events.
Ruiz, another incoming freshman, also has strong credentials. He represented Mexico in the Junior Davis Cup for two years. Ruiz has captured two ITF J30 singles titles and will graduate from Instituto Rougier before heading to Portland.
Hagglund joins as a junior transfer from the University of Mount Olive, a Division II program. In Sweden, he reached the doubles final of an ITF J30 event and was a semifinalist at the U18 Swedish Championships in 2022. He also won a U16 regional singles title in 2020. While at Mount Olive, Hagglund posted 11 singles wins in 2025, including an impressive 7-1 record in conference play.
The trio will join Coach Mam, who is entering his seventh season, along with three returning players for the 2025-26 campaign.
