Olympian Lakshya Sen faced a disappointing first-round exit from the Thailand Open 2025 badminton tournament. He lost to Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen at the Nimibutr Stadium on Wednesday.

Sen, ranked 18th in the men’s singles world rankings, fought hard after losing the first game. However, he could not complete a comeback. He lost the match 21-18, 9-21, 21-17 to world No. 34 Nhat Nguyen. The match lasted one hour and 20 minutes.

Another Indian player, Priyanshu Rajawat, was also eliminated in the first round. He lost to Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan with a scoreline of 21-13, 17-21, 21-16.

There was some relief for India as Tharun Mannepalli secured a win. He defeated Malaysia’s Justin Hoh 21-19, 21-16 in 48 minutes. This win kept India’s hopes alive in the men’s singles category of the BWF Super 500 tournament.

However, India’s men’s doubles campaign ended earlier in the day. The pair of Sai Pratheek K and Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy lost to Malaysia’s Junaidi Arif and Yap Roy King. The final score was 22-20, 17-21, 21-18.
