This win was very special for Imran. It was his first international tournament. He had only recently qualified for the SL3 classification in Dubai, right before the event began.

“Alhamdulillah, I was able to enter Pelatnas, and this was my international debut. Thank God, I was given the fortune to become the champion,” said Imran in an official statement.

Imran admitted he felt nervous during his first international matches. Most of his opponents, including Kumar, had already played in many international competitions.

“It feels very different compared to domestic matches. There was tension because it was my first time playing internationally. But support from my family and friends helped me stay calm and confident,” he said.

He faced tough opponents throughout the tournament, including players from South Korea and India. Still, Imran managed to win the gold.

Imran, who will turn 22 in July 2025, only started playing badminton seriously in 2020. At first, he did not follow any special training programs. However, his talent quickly became clear.

In 2022, he won a gold medal representing Bogor at the Regional Paralympic Week (Peparda) in Bekasi. This success motivated him to focus more on badminton.

“After Peparda, I represented West Java at Peparnas 2024 Solo. Alhamdulillah, I won three gold medals — in the national singles SL3 class, the elite SL3 singles, and the men’s team event,” Imran explained.

Indonesia’s para badminton coach, Ukun Rukaendi, was not surprised by Imran’s victory. The coaching team had already seen his potential when he dominated the SL3 class at the 2024 Peparnas XVII in Solo.

“We already predicted that Imran could compete at this level. Thankfully, he passed the SL3 classification and succeeded in bringing home a gold medal for Indonesia,” said Ukun.

The gold medal at the Fazza Dubai International is just the beginning. The coaching team plans to improve Imran’s stamina and skills to prepare him for bigger competitions, including the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.

“I am very optimistic. With his strong talent, young age, good physical posture, and strong desire to train with discipline, I believe Imran can qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics,” Ukun added.
