Volleyball Australia has named four athletes who will represent the country in beach volleyball at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Duisburg, Germany, this July.
The beach volleyball competition will take place from July 21 to 26 at Sportpark Duisburg. Australia will send one men’s and one women’s team to compete on the international stage.
South Australia’s Oliver Merritt and Western Australia’s Jed Walker have been chosen for the men’s team. The pair had a standout domestic season, including a gold medal at the Australian Beach Volleyball Tour event in Cobram in February.
In the women’s competition, Western Australians Cassandra Dodd and Sarah Burton will don the green and gold. Both athletes are currently based in the United States, playing in top college beach volleyball programs. Dodd is part of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) team, while Burton plays for the University of Hawaii.
Volleyball Australia’s Beach Performance Manager, Simon Naismith, said representing the country is a meaningful opportunity for the athletes.
“Each opportunity to wear the green and gold is one that I know our athletes do not take for granted,” Naismith said. “Competing at the World University Games will be a valuable step in their progression, and we’re excited to see them take on this next challenge and represent Australia later in the year.”
