Tennis Stars Return for Fourth Luxembourg Ladies Tennis Masters This October

At a press event held Monday in Luxembourg, organizers confirmed that defending champion Kirsten Flipkens and 2023 winner Anett Kontaveit will return to compete. They also announced that former Wimbledon finalist Genie Bouchard will make her first appearance in the event.

Since launching in 2022, when Kim Clijsters beat Martina Hingis in the final, the tournament has grown steadily. Strong support from the government, sponsors, and fans has helped establish it as a popular event on the legends’ tennis circuit.

Last year, Flipkens defeated Hingis in the final, marking Hingis’s second runner-up finish at the tournament. In 2023, newly retired Anett Kontaveit claimed the title by defeating Andrea Petkovic.

The tournament is organized by International Women’s Tennis Promotion (IWTP), the same group that ran Luxembourg’s WTA 250 event for 25 years. Bouchard played that event four times, reaching the semifinals in 2018 as a qualifier before losing to Julia Goerges.

Now 31, Bouchard—once ranked World No. 5 and currently making waves in professional pickleball—will become the first active player to compete under the event’s current format. Typically, participation is limited to players who have officially retired from the WTA Tour. Her last sanctioned tennis match was in 2023 at the National Bank Open in Toronto.

The prize pool for the 2025 event totals €110,000. Quarterfinalists will earn €5,000, semifinalists €10,000, the runner-up €20,000, and the champion will take home €50,000.

Beyond the competition, the players will engage in off-court activities focused on empowering women and girls. These initiatives will be supported by the WTA Foundation.

Organizers expect to announce more players in the coming months.
