Robert Lewandowski scored twice as Barcelona wrapped up their La Liga season with a 3-0 win over Athletic Club. The victory highlighted a strong end to their 2024/25 campaign and secured a four-point lead over rivals Real Madrid.
Athletic Club started brightly, with Nico Williams almost scoring in the 7th minute. He cut in from the left and sent a powerful shot just wide of the post.
Just seven minutes later, Lewandowski opened the scoring with a clever chip over goalkeeper Unai Simon. It was not only his 100th goal for Barcelona but also the team’s 100th league goal this season.
Only three minutes passed before Lewandowski struck again. Raphinha’s corner deflected off an Athletic defender and landed perfectly for the Polish striker, who headed it in at the back post to make it 2-0.
Athletic’s best opportunity came right before half-time. Maroan Sannadi broke through on goal but failed to take a shot and lost the chance by trying to cut inside.
In the second half, Lewandowski had a golden chance to complete his hat-trick. Raphinha delivered a perfect cross, but Lewandowski fired the ball over the bar from close range.
Athletic nearly pulled one back when a deflection off Pau Cubarsí sent the ball toward Barcelona’s goal. However, goalkeeper Iñaki Peña made an outstanding save, tipping the ball onto the crossbar to preserve the clean sheet.
Barcelona sealed the result late in the game. Dani Olmo scored from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 and close out a dominant performance.
Barcelona ended the season with 88 points, finishing top of the table. Athletic Club can still celebrate, as their spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League is secured despite the defeat.
