Arizona Men’s Tennis head coach Clancy Shields has announced the addition of Baran Soyler, a junior transfer from Georgia State, to the Wildcats’ roster for the 2025-26 season.
Soyler joins the program after a strong year at Georgia State, where he earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors in singles. He finished the season with a 10-6 singles record and went 7-7 in doubles, often competing at the top of the lineup. His standout performances earned him the title of 2025 Sun Belt Conference Player to Watch. He also notched wins against players from Chattanooga, Furman, Louisiana, VCU, and Coastal Carolina.
In the 2023-24 season, Soyler was named the Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year and picked up Second Team All-Sun Belt honors in singles. He was also recognized as Sun Belt Player of the Week on January 24.
Coach Shields praised the newest Wildcat, saying, “Excited to welcome Baran to the Wildcat family. He is a very good player, strong physically, good tennis IQ, and a tough competitor. He’s also a great kid and someone I’ve enjoyed getting to know. With three years of experience, he’ll bring a much-needed veteran mindset to our team. I believe he’ll make an impact on the court and help build our team culture.”
Originally from Adana, Turkey, Soyler began his college tennis career at Middle Tennessee State. As a freshman, he posted a 3-1 singles record and went 1-0 in doubles. He transferred to Georgia State for the 2023-24 season.
Soyler also brings academic excellence to Arizona. He was named to the President’s List in Spring 2024 and made the Dean’s List in Fall 2023, Fall 2024, and Spring 2025. Additionally, he earned a spot on the 2023-24 Sun Belt Commissioner’s List.
