Just one day after helping Denison University win its first NCAA Division III men’s tennis team national title, three Big Red players returned to action in the individual championship rounds. Juniors Ethan Green, Jacob Patterson, and Kael Shah all qualified for the singles tournament, with Green and Shah also competing in the doubles draw.
Of the three, Kael Shah advanced the furthest, making a deep run all the way to the singles national championship match on Monday, May 26. Shah’s journey followed a strong doubles effort with Green, which ended on Saturday, and a semifinal singles win that set up a final clash with fellow junior Advik Mareedu.
Mareedu, playing on his home court with strong local support, took control early. He won the first set 6-0 and continued to dominate in the second, sealing the match with a 6-1 win to claim the title.
Despite the tough final, Shah closed out a standout junior season with multiple honors. He was named ITA Runner-Up in doubles this past fall, and now adds NCAA Singles Runner-Up to his growing list of accolades.
Shah’s performance helped cap a historic weekend for Denison tennis, highlighting both team and individual excellence at the national level.
