Elena Rybakina opened her 2025 Roland Garros campaign with a solid win and shared her thoughts on adapting her aggressive playing style to clay courts.
Speaking at her post-match press conference, Rybakina admitted she prefers faster surfaces, but believes her strengths can still shine through on clay.
“I prefer faster surfaces because my game is aggressive,” she said. “But even here, on clay, I believe my serve can work well. Maybe not today, but I think having an aggressive style on clay gives me a certain advantage.”
The 2022 Wimbledon champion also acknowledged the importance of balance. While aggression remains her main weapon, she recognized the need for patience and smarter court positioning.
“Perhaps I should come to the net more often and finish points there,” Rybakina added. “I should be more patient, but my style is aggressive. When I’m physically prepared and moving well, it doesn’t matter which surface I’m playing on.”
Rybakina will look to continue her momentum in the upcoming rounds as she aims for a deep run in Paris.
