The official draw has placed Iran alongside defending champions Japan in Pool B of the 2nd Asian Women’s U16 Volleyball Championship, scheduled to take place in Jordan from July 20 to 27, 2024.
This tournament will be the final event on the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) calendar for the year. It follows the conclusion of the men’s U16 championship in Thailand on July 19.
A total of 16 teams will compete, with the top three teams earning qualification spots for the 2026 FIVB Girls’ U17 World Championship.
Tournament Format
The championship will begin with a pool round-robin format, with four pools of four teams each. The top two teams from each pool will move on to the second round, divided into Pool E (for top teams from Pool A and Pool C) and Pool F (from Pool B and Pool D).
The bottom two teams from each initial pool will play in classification rounds for 9th to 16th place, in Pool G (from Pool A and Pool C) and Pool H (from Pool B and Pool D).
Pool Composition
Based on Sunday’s draw, the pools are as follows:
- Pool A: Jordan (host), Uzbekistan (7th seed), Lebanon, Hong Kong China
- Pool B: Japan (top seed and defending champion), Iran (6th seed), Saudi Arabia, Philippines
- Pool C: China (2nd seed), Kazakhstan (5th seed), Qatar, Korea
- Pool D: Chinese Taipei (3rd seed), Thailand (4th seed), Australia, India
Opening Day Matches – July 20
The tournament kicks off on July 20 with eight matches:
- Jordan vs. Hong Kong China
- Uzbekistan vs. Lebanon
- Japan vs. Philippines
- Iran vs. Saudi Arabia
- China vs. Korea
- Kazakhstan vs. Qatar
- Chinese Taipei vs. India
- Thailand vs. Australia
The competition will span eight days, promising high-intensity volleyball and fierce competition as teams battle for both the championship and a place on the world stage.
