Wichita State men’s basketball head coach Paul Mills announced Tuesday that Josh Eilert has joined the program as an assistant coach. Eilert fills the position previously held by Quincy Acy.
Mills praised Acy’s contributions, saying, “Quincy was a wonderful addition when I became head coach. He’s a phenomenal person and teacher, and I’m happy for him as he takes time to be with his family and explore new opportunities.”
Eilert brings over 20 years of coaching experience at the Power 4 level. He most recently served as an assistant coach at the University of Utah and finished the 2024–25 season as the interim head coach for the final six games. Before that, Eilert spent 17 seasons at West Virginia University (2007–2024) in multiple roles, including interim head coach for the 2023–24 season.
During his time at WVU, the Mountaineers made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four run in 2010 and five Sweet 16s.
“Coach Eilert is a Kansas native who’s worked with top programs like Kansas State, West Virginia, and Utah,” Mills said. “When I spoke to people who’ve worked with him, I kept hearing how respected and trusted he is. He’s a proven teacher and leader, and we’re thrilled to welcome him, his wife Brandi, and their children Brendan, Emri, and Tristan to Shocker Nation.”
Eilert’s duties at West Virginia included player development, recruiting, scouting, film breakdown, scheduling, operations, travel planning, fundraising, and more. In 2021, Silver Waves Media named him to its list of Top-50 Notable Division I Support Staff members.
He officially became a WVU assistant coach in the 2022–23 season and was promoted to interim head coach the following year after longtime coach Bob Huggins stepped down.
Before his time in Morgantown, Eilert was a graduate assistant at Kansas State from 2005 to 2007. He worked under head coach Jim Wooldridge for one year and under Huggins during the 2006–07 season.
As a player, Eilert competed for Kansas State from 2002 to 2004 after transferring from Cloud County Community College, where he was a starter and two-year letter winner. He earned Academic All-Big 12 honors and was a four-time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection. At Cloud County, he was also named a KJCAA Academic All-American.
Originally from Osborne, Kansas, Eilert holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing (2004) and a master’s degree in college student personnel/intercollegiate athletics from Kansas State (2007).
