Five members of Kazakhstan’s tennis team have made a strong start at the 2025 Roland Garros in Paris, advancing to the second round.
In the men’s singles, Alexander Bublik defeated Australia’s James Duckworth 6-2, 6-4, 6-3. Bublik will face world No. 9 Alex de Minaur of Australia in his next match.
Alexander Shevchenko triumphed over Serbian Dusan Lajovic with a 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) scoreline. Shevchenko will take on American Ethan Quinn in the second round.
In the women’s singles, Elena Rybakina won a tough match against Argentina’s Julia Riera, ranked 202nd, with a score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Rybakina’s next opponent will be American Iva Jovic.
Yulia Putintseva also made a successful start, defeating Argentina’s Solana Sierra (ranked 110th) 7-6 (4), 6-2. Putintseva will next face Joanna Garland of Taipei.
In doubles, Anna Danilina, teaming up with Aleksandra Krunic of Serbia, won against Magda Linette of Poland and Bernarda Pera of the USA, with a score of 6-7, 6-1, 6-4. Their next opponents will be determined in the following rounds.
In other tennis news, Sandugash Kenzhibayeva of Kazakhstan recently claimed the doubles title at the ITF W15 Maanshan in China.
