The Costa Rica Baseball Federation (FCB) is marking its 100th anniversary with the Copa Centenario, an international baseball tournament featuring four national teams. The event runs through June 1 and is being played in San José and Heredia.
The tournament is officially sanctioned by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) and will award world ranking points.
Costa Rica, currently ranked No. 53 in the world, is hosting three regional rivals:
- Nicaragua (World No. 16)
- Guatemala (No. 51)
- El Salvador (No. 65)
Games are being held at Antonio Escarré Stadium in San José and Santo Domingo Stadium in Heredia. All matchups will be seven-inning games.
The event also coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Santo Domingo Baseball Association, adding further significance to the celebration.
“Baseball is part of Costa Rica’s sports history,” said Adrian Alfaro, President of the FCB. “The fact that we can organise high-profile events like this Copa Centenario shows our commitment to developing the game in our country.”
The Copa Centenario serves as both a competitive event and a celebration of Costa Rica’s rich baseball legacy, bringing together some of Central America’s top teams for a historic occasion.
