Sindhu, Satwik-Chirag in Action as India Faces Mixed Results at Indonesia Open 2025

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu exited the Indonesia Open 2025 on Thursday after a tough three-game loss in the women’s singles pre-quarterfinals.

Sindhu, currently ranked 21st in the world, started strong but eventually lost 20-22, 21-10, 21-18 to sixth seed and world No. 8 Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand.

The match began with a back-and-forth first game. Chochuwong led 11-10 at the interval and later extended her lead to 16-10. However, Sindhu clawed her way back to level the score at 18-18. She saved a game point at 19-20 before taking the opening game 22-20.

Chochuwong bounced back quickly in the second game, dominating Sindhu 21-10 with little resistance.

Sindhu regained control early in the decider and led 15-11, but she couldn’t hold her lead. Chochuwong staged a strong comeback to seal the match in one hour and 18 minutes.

With Sindhu’s loss, India’s singles challenge at the BWF Super 1000 event came to an end.

In men’s doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty gave India something to cheer about. The world No. 22 duo fought back from a game down to defeat Denmark’s Rasmus Kjær and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen 16-21, 21-18, 22-20.

After losing the opening game, the Indian pair raised their performance and stayed level at 14-14 in the second before closing it out with a strong finish. The final game was intense, with both sides exchanging leads. Satwik and Chirag saved a match point and eventually secured the win in one hour and eight minutes.

However, India’s run ended in the women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost in straight games to Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto, going down 21-13, 24-22. The Indian pair put up a strong fight in the second game but couldn’t force a decider.

In mixed doubles, Sathish Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath were outplayed by Thailand’s sixth-seeded pair, Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran. The Indian duo lost 21-7, 21-12.
