LSU baseball assistant coach Josh Jordan has emerged as a possible candidate for the vacant head coach position at Duke. The job became open on Tuesday when Chris Pollard left Duke to accept the same role at Virginia. Almost immediately, Jordan’s name surfaced on social media as a potential replacement.
Jordan plays a pivotal role in LSU’s success, serving as the third base coach, coaching the catchers and first basemen, and overseeing recruiting. His impact on the Tigers has been significant since joining the program in the summer of 2022.
What makes Jordan a strong candidate for the Duke job is his deep connection to the university. Prior to his time at LSU, Jordan spent nearly a decade as an assistant coach on Duke’s staff, building strong ties within the program. Given his previous experience at Duke and his accomplishments at LSU, his name is a natural fit for the role.
If Jordan were to leave LSU for the Duke job, head coach Jay Johnson would face the challenge of filling a key spot on his coaching staff. However, Johnson is no stranger to the turnover that comes with success. After LSU won the national championship in 2023, pitching coach Wes Johnson left for a head coaching position at Georgia.
As the coaching carousel continues to turn, LSU is focused on its immediate goal of another national title. The Tigers are set to begin their College World Series run against Arkansas on Saturday night.
