National women’s doubles head coach Rosman Razak has confirmed he will stay with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, despite ongoing contract issues with some of his players.
Rosman is determined to focus on his mission and guide all the shuttlers under his care through to 2028, even if players decide to turn professional. Currently, his top doubles pair, world No. 3 Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, have yet to sign a contract with BAM, raising the possibility that they could become independent.
However, Rosman is not letting the uncertainty around his players’ contracts distract him from his responsibilities.
“Whatever happens with Pearly and Thinaah’s contracts, I cannot let it affect my focus,” Rosman said after a training session at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Wednesday. “I don’t know what the future holds, but as long as they are training under me, I will do my best to guide them and keep pushing towards the biggest goal: the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.”
Rosman also stressed that his duties extend beyond just Pearly and Thinaah, and that his focus is on all the women’s doubles pairs in the team.
While the contract issue remains unresolved, Rosman successfully guided Pearly and Thinaah to a runners-up finish at the recent Indonesian Open. The duo reached their first-ever World Tour Super 1000 final, where they fought hard before losing 25-23, 12-21, 19-21 to China’s world No. 1 Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning.
“Pearly and Thinaah didn’t win the title, but I’m happy with their performance in this tournament,” Rosman said. “It’s a big breakthrough for them and a boost for the entire women’s doubles team. I hope they can keep this momentum going.”
He added, “It’s normal for players to go through ups and downs. We need to support them even more when they’re struggling than when they’re winning.”
Pearly and Thinaah will next compete in the Japan Open (July 15-20) and China Open (July 22-27).
