The pivotal doubles match saw Australia’s pair, Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell, claim a decisive 6-4, 7-5 victory over Czech duo Jiri Lehecka and Adam Pavlasek, sealing their team’s spot in the semifinals. Earlier, Alex de Minaur battled back against Lehecka, winning 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-5, leveling the tie at 1-1.
Ebden expressed his awe at the comeback, stating, “I’ve never seen anything like it live. What Alex did to give us the chance to come out here and fight was incredible. We were one game away from being out of here and winning, going to the semi-finals. We couldn’t be more proud.”
Australia faced an early setback as Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic defeated Jordan Thompson 6-4, 7-5, giving the Czechs a 1-0 lead. However, the Australian team rallied, showcasing their resilience and team spirit.
